Our Stories, Our Voices: Pearline Dixon

  • Date: 06/19/2019 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Pearline Dixon is the eldest daughter of Mother Perry, the highly regarded mid-wife and community activist who delivered over 500 babies in Collier County. Her father, Willie Perry, worked for Lee Cypress as a logger. Born in Monticello, FL, Mrs. Dixon came to Copeland with her parents in 1947 at eleven years old. She was educated at the elementary school for black children in Everglade and was close to several Native Americans living and working in the area. Mrs. Dixon will talk about her experience living in the Black community of Copeland and later in Naples as well as being the daughter of Mother Perry.

Our Stories, Our Voices is part of the annual Collier County Museums lecture series. Native or long-time residents of Collier County will discuss their experiences living here and how the area has changed.
