51 - Use Caution When Hiring Contractors to Perform Work
Residents are urged to use caution when hiring a contractor to perform work. They should make sure they hire a reputable, licensed contractor and are urged to hire the correct type of contractor specific to the type of work that they wish to have performed. Licenses for work are specific, i.e. roof repairs - tile roofs require one type of license and shingle roofs require a different type of license. Residents are encouraged to contact Collier County Contractor Licensing at (239) 252-2431 or visit our website before hiring a contractor to verify the company’s credentials.
Emergency repair work to securing a building (enclosing doors, windows and roofs) does not require a permit at this time. All other repair work is required to have a permit. Roof repairs may only be performed by a licensed roofing contractor.
Collier County will have emergency permitting available beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the Naples Permitting Office, located at 2800 N. Horseshoe Drive, Naples, Florida 34104, and at the Immokalee Permitting Office at 310 Alachua St., Immokalee, Florida 34142. No other permitting will be available at this time.
Any companies wishing to perform debris and tree removal services or basic landscape maintenance, are required to have an Occupational License.
Under Florida Statute, unlicensed persons who perform work during a declared State of Emergency are committing a third-degree felony
Anyone having questions or wanting to report unlicensed activity should contact Collier County Contractor Licensing at (239) 252-2431. Please note that the phone service is down at the moment, but Collier County is working to get it restored.
The Collier County Information Hotline remains active 24-hours a day. Residents with questions may call the Hotline at (239) 252-8444 (within Collier County residents may dial 311). Please note, the call volume may be heavy and information can also be found at colliergov.net or social media channels, including Facebook (www.facebook.com/CollierGov) and Twitter (@CollierPIO).
