County Staff Host Washington Delegates
Highlight Senior Volunteer Program
On Wednesday, Oct. 4, county staff in the Community and Human Services Division hosted a team from Washington, D.C. in Immokalee and a round table discussion in Naples. The Washington delegation consisted of Director for Senior Corps at the Corporation for National and Community Service Deborah Cox-Roush, AmeriCorps Director Chester Spellman, Acting Director - AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps Gina Cross, State of Florida Corporation for National Community Service Program Director Betshell Louis, along with staff representatives from Senator Nelson’s office and staff representatives from Senator Rubio’s office.
The group saw firsthand the work that has been done by volunteers in the Immokalee area in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma.

The purpose of Director Cox-Roush’s visit was to better understand the challenges that face the Collier County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) as well as the program’s achievements. The tour included visiting Habitat for Humanity in Immokalee followed by the roundtable discussion with staff, local RSVP volunteers and members of Senator Nelson’s office.
