10 a.m. - Noon

The Collier County Public Library and the Naples Press Club will co-host a panel discussion to examine the art of news writing and blogging from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, December 8, in the Sugden Theater at the Headquarters Library, 2385 Orange Blossom Drive, Naples, Florida 34109.

Aspiring freelance writers and bloggers are invited to hear seven expert panelists share valuable insight and personal experiences. Attendees will also have an opportunity to ask questions.

The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided at 9:30 a.m. Registration is not required; however, seating is limited.

Moderating the discussion will be David Silverberg, Naples Press Club board member and president of Silverberg Independent Media in Naples.

The panelists will be:

Marqueeta Curtis-Haynes, formerly a CBS News award-winning broadcast news writer/producer in New York City, now a freelance writer based in Naples. She has three Emmys, two Emmy nominations, and a slew of Telly awards. Her blog is Ageless Glamour Girls.

Kelly Jane Farrell, Managing Editor of eBella magazine, Naples. She was a reporter with the Naples Daily News, as staff and a freelancer for more than 10 years and has extensive experience as a freelance writer and editor.

Dayna Harpster, APR, has been a writer and editor full time for The Times-Picayune in New Orleans and Fort Myers News-Press. She has been an independent journalist since 2013. Her freelance work has appeared in WGCU Expressions magazine (of which she was editor for four years), Gulfshore Life, Gulfshore Business, National Fisherman, Spotlight News and other publications. She also works as a public relations consultant for local agencies and her own clients.

Glenn Miller, formerly a staff writer for The News-Press, he became a freelance writer in 2012; his byline has appeared in Florida Weekly, Gulfshore Life and Gulfshore Business. He has published one novel and is working on a second. An instructor in the FGCU journalism department, he also has a blog at

Dave Osborn, Naples Daily News, Regional Features and Entertainment Editor. He oversees food, entertainment, theater and other arts coverage for the Naples Daily News and Fort Myers News-Press. He joined the Daily News in 2000.

Jennifer Reed, an award-winning senior writer for Gulfshore Life, she explores the issues, ideas, people and places that define Southwest Florida. Previously, she was a reporter for the Fort Myers News-Press and MetroWest Daily News (Massachusetts), a freelance writer, and a high school journalism and English instructor.

Robbie Spencer, Florida Weekly Managing Editor, he was the first executive editor of Naples Herald, a free digital news platform. He has worked for Breeze newspapers at the Sanibel Islander and freelanced for the Naples Daily News and its community publications including The Banner, Collier Citizen and Journal, as well as the FGCU alumni magazine FGCU 360, the Birmingham Business Journal and The New York Times. He recently completed his first book, a memoir for a retired businessman who now resides on Sanibel Island.
