Middle School Students to Participate in Mock County Commission Meeting
Tuesday, January 15, 2019
9:30 a.m.

Collier County middle school students will participate in a Mock County Commission Meeting beginning at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 15, in the Collier County Board of County Commissioners chambers, third floor, Collier County Government Center, 3299 Tamiami Trail E., Naples, Florida 34112. 

Teachers have been preparing their civics class students to discuss topics of their choosing. Some of the selected topics include:

• Improving accessibility and safety of county parks.
• Implementing a ban on a variety of commercial single-use plastics. 
• Housing communities for income-based families.
• Developing a recreational center for youth 12 to 17 years old.
Students will assume the roles of commissioners, the county attorney, county manager, and deputy county manager. Other students will play the role of community members prepared to debate both sides of the presented topics. County staff will be on hand to assist the students.
