Collier County Business Roundtable:
Tapping the Government Subcontracting Market

Wednesday, April 24, 2019
9 a.m. – Noon

The Collier County Office of Business & Economic Development will hold its annual government contracting workshop from 9 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, April 24, at the Naples Accelerator, 3510 Kraft Road, Suite 200, Naples, Florida 34109. This event is designed to show small businesses how to grow exponentially by bidding on government contracts.

The free, three-hour “Collier County Business Roundtable: Tapping the Government Subcontracting Market” will begin at 9 a.m. Registration starts at 8:45 a.m., with coffee and baked goods provided by the Florida Culinary Accelerator @ Immokalee.

“We’re hoping to connect businesses that may not be able to fill a full government contract and give them some ideas for working with general contractors as subcontractors in their specialty,” Jace Kentner, director of the county Office of Business & Economic Development. “If you can’t do it all, you can offer your services to a contractor and be a sub.”

Defense contracting is one area where Collier County businesses have been successful, Kentner noted. In 2017, 115 Collier County businesses won 296 U.S. Department of Defense contracts worth $45.8 million. “And that’s just one federal agency,” Kentner said, adding that Collier County’s Procurement Services Division procures more than $800 million annually in goods and services.

The roundtable will feature nine business speakers, including Quality Enterprises, Melco Inc., and HyperTeam USA; a panel discussion; and four government and non-profit speakers including Commissioner Penny Taylor, chair of the Board of County Commissioners’ Economic Development Committee, and Collier County’s procurement manager for acquisitions, Swain Hall, who will detail the process for bidding on county contracts. Two or more members of the Board of County Commissioners may be present and participate at the meeting.

The Outstanding Contractor Award will be presented to Arthrex Senior Vice President John Schmieding and the Dynamic Small Contractor Award will be presented to Ed Dort, president of Directional Command LLC.
