Public Information Meeting
Wednesday, May 22, 2019
6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The Vanderbilt Beach Road Extension Design Project 30 Percent Concepts Public Information Meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 22 at the UF/IFAS Extension Office (Multi-purpose Room), 14700 Immokalee Road, Naples, Florida 34120. The meeting will be an open house format from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will not be a formal presentation. All interested members of the public are welcome to stop by to review the latest 30 percent concept displays and talk one-on-one with the members of the design team which includes county staff and the county’s design consultant, Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc. Public input is very important and is encouraged.
Maps, drawings, and other project information dealing with the concepts proposed will be on display at the meeting. Additional information about the project can be found on the county’s website at www.colliercountyfl.gov/transportationprojects.
Currently the 30 percent concepts for the Vanderbilt Beach Road Extension include extending the existing Vanderbilt Beach Road approximately seven miles from Collier Boulevard (CR 951) to 16th Street NE. Proposed improvements include a new six-lane divided roadway with pedestrian and bicycle facilities. The new roadway is being planned to assist with relieving existing congestion and accommodate future traffic volumes.
Based on public comments received at the last public information meeting held in June 2018, potential features such as on-road bike lanes, sidewalks, a 12-foot pathway and intersection streetlights were supported. Intersection improvements include: minor improvements at Weber Boulevard, Massey Street, and Douglas Street; and new intersections at Wilson Boulevard, 8th Street NE and 16th Street NE. Other improvements include a potential canal relocation (south of the roadway) from 29th Street NW to 15th Street NW, three new canal bridges, and stormwater management ponds.
Two or more additional public information meetings are proposed during the course of the design process over the next two years prior to the project being let to bid for construction, which is currently expected in winter of 2020.
Two or more members of the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) may be present and participate at this public information meeting. The subject matter of this meeting may be an item for discussion and action at a future BCC meeting.
