Crews have collected nearly 3/4 of the debris generated by the September storm.

As of the end of the day, Monday, Dec. 4, Collier County’s emergency debris removal contractor had collected approximately 3,263,028 cubic yards of Hurricane Irma-related debris from the estimated 4.2 million cubic yards of debris caused by the Sept. 10 storm.

Collier County is working hard to complete the debris collection mission from Hurricane Irma. Storm debris collection throughout the county is approximately 80 percent completed with all major arterial roadways and residential streets cleared. We need your help to make the final Hurricane Irma storm debris pass successful. Friday, December 15, will be the last day for residents to place Hurricane Irma-related storm debris on the county right-of-way in front of their home for collection.

Storm debris includes:
• Any trees, tree limbs or shrubs felled by the hurricane.
• Fencing, flooring, furniture, carpet, wallboard, etc., that had to be removed from the home due to flooding or other structural damage.
Storm-related yard waste must be kept separate from other items placed out for collection. Yard debris must not be green (freshly cut), and no green yard waste material can be combined with hurricane-related yard debris, otherwise the debris pile will not comply with Federal Emergency Management Agency guidelines for collection. Please ensure piles of yard waste are away from mailboxes, water meters, backflow prevention devices, utility poles and other objects that could be damaged by the large debris removal equipment. Debris crews will not collect light small piles of yard debris (twigs, leaves, pine cones, etc.) left behind from the first pass. Light small piles should be placed in conforming paper bags or in 45-gallon personal containers and placed curbside on your regularly scheduled yard waste collection day.

After December 15, residents must prepare yard waste as they normally would for curbside collection. Leaves and other light yard waste (twigs, pine cones, etc.) may be placed in paper bags or in 45-gallon personal containers. Branches no larger than 4-inches in diameter may be cut to lengths no longer than 4-feet, then tied with string into bundles weighing no more than 50 pounds. Up to 10 bundles, paper bags or 45-gallon personal containers of yard waste will be collected each week on your regularly scheduled yard waste collection day. Larger limbs and tree stumps removed by the property owner or landscape contractor may be taken to the landfill. Tipping fees will apply.
For those residents who wish to self-haul yard debris after December 15 the Temporary Residential Drop-off locations will remain open through December 22. These sites will officially close after December 22. Please note these sites are for storm-related yard waste only; no construction debris, garbage, hazardous materials, or appliances.
